Score high in the subjects you may one day teachThroughout Class 9–10

A future teacher needs deep command of one subject: Biology or Physics/Chemistry/Maths (FSc route) or Humanities subjects like English, Urdu, Civics, History (FA route). Whichever you love most, aim for 90%+ in it at Matric — university admissions for BS programmes (which lead to MPhil/PhD and professorship) weigh Matric and FSc marks, and merit for good government colleges is competitive.

Decide your FSc/FA group with teaching in mindClass 10, before admissions open after results

Any stream works for teaching, but pick the one matching your future subject: Pre-Medical if you'd teach Biology, Pre-Engineering for Physics/Maths/Chemistry, ICS for Computer Science, FA (Humanities) for English, Urdu, History, Islamic Studies or Education. FA/Arts is a fully valid route to a BS and then BEd/MPhil — don't let anyone tell you Arts students can't become professors.

Strengthen English and Urdu expressionDaily habit, Class 9 onward

Teachers explain, write lesson plans and answer PPSC/FPSC-style papers in English and Urdu. Build essay writing, grammar and speaking confidence now — join debates, write summaries of each chapter you study, and read one English article daily. This habit pays off in board exams, entry tests later, and interviews for teaching jobs.

Know which marks count laterClass 9–10

Matric marks count for college admission merit lists and some scholarship applications (PEEF, HEC need-based). They do not replace MDCAT/ECAT later — but a weak Matric base makes Class 11 FSc very hard, and FSc marks feed your BS admission CGPA pathway. Treat every board paper as practice for the academic record you'll carry to a BS and eventually an MPhil/PhD.

FBISE, Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan or AKU-EB — whichever board your school is registered with. Exams are held in spring. There is no entry test for teaching at this stage; your board result is what matters for college admission and scholarships.

Public speaking and explaining conceptsStart now

Teaching is explaining. Practise by teaching one topic you learned to a sibling, cousin or classmate each week. Free learning: watch edX 'Introduction to Public Speaking' (audit free) or YouTube channels like TED-Ed for style.

Study and note-making techniqueClass 9

Learn to make clean notes, mind maps and summaries — you will reuse these skills when making lesson plans. Free: Khan Academy study-skills content and Notion/Google Docs templates on YouTube.

Basic computer and presentation toolsClass 9–10

Modern teachers use slides, Google Classroom and MS PowerPoint/Google Slides. Learn slide-making and typing (free on GCFGlobal.org and Google's Applied Digital Skills).

English communicationDaily, 15 minutes

Free: BBC Learning English website and app, and Duolingo for daily practice. Strong English helps in board exams, later PPSC/FPSC papers and classroom teaching.

National Science Talent Contest / STEM olympiad campsWatch for screening announcements in Class 9–10

HEC-linked STEM Careers Project runs screening for Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Maths olympiads. Open to Matric-level students with strong science marks — great for a future science teacher's profile.

School and inter-school debates, declamation and quiz contestsAnytime in Class 9–10

Not an olympiad, but the most relevant 'competition' for a future teacher: public speaking, explaining ideas and handling an audience. Join every speech, essay-writing and quiz event your school or board offers.
