Score high in Matric Maths and PhysicsClass 9 and 10, daily

B.Arch programmes (NCA, UET Lahore, Punjab University, Indus Valley, BNU) require Mathematics at intermediate level, which means you should aim for FSc Pre-Engineering or ICS with Maths. That path starts with strong Matric Science marks: Maths and Physics are the subjects that carry into Class 11.

Start drawing every weekClass 9 onward

Architecture admissions later include drawing/aptitude tests and portfolio reviews (NCA and Indus Valley weigh them heavily). Start a sketch habit now: freehand perspective drawings of buildings, rooms and streetscapes. Two or three drawings a week builds the hand-eye skill no cramming can replace.

Choose the right intermediate group before spring of Class 10Class 10, before board results

The big decision ahead: FSc Pre-Engineering (Maths + Physics + Chemistry) is the safest route to B.Arch. ICS with Maths also works. FA with Fine Arts keeps some private-university doors open but closes most public-sector ones. Decide with your parents after Class 10 results, but know your target group early so your subject effort matches it.

Build a portfolio folder from day oneClass 9 onward

Keep every good drawing, model or craft project in a physical folder and photograph each piece. By A Level / FSc time you will need a portfolio for NCA, Indus Valley and BNU interviews — students who start in Class 11 have far less to show than those who start now.

These are the exams that count. Your Matric marks are reported on every future admission form and scholarship application, including B.Arch programmes at NCA, UET and Punjab University. Board exams run in spring of Class 10.

Freehand sketching and perspective drawingClass 9 onward, weekly

The single most important skill for a future architect. Practise one-point and two-point perspective drawings of buildings, and copy photos of well-known Pakistani buildings like Badshahi Mosque or Faisal Mosque.

Geometry and spatial reasoningClass 9 and 10

B.Arch entrance aptitude tests lean heavily on mental rotation, 2D-to-3D folding and geometric reasoning. Practise from any Class 9–10 geometry book and free spatial-reasoning tests online.

Basic computer drawingClass 10

Start with free tools so CAD later feels familiar: learn the basics of SketchUp Free (browser-based 3D modelling) or Tinkercad, both free to use, and simple drawing in Canva or GIMP.

English writing and descriptionClass 9 onward

Architecture programmes include written explanations of your designs, and NCA-style aptitude tests check expression. Write short descriptions of buildings you visit or sketch — vocabulary for form, light and space.

National and international maths olympiadsClass 9 and 10

Ask your school about the Pakistan Mathematical Olympiad and school-level maths competitions. Strong olympiad performance strengthens any engineering-and-design application and sharpens the geometry thinking architects use daily.

School art and poster competitionsThroughout Class 9 and 10
