About
ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is a UK-based professional accounting qualification you can start after Matric or FSc. You pass around 13 exams and complete practical experience, often while working in an audit firm or company accounts department. ACCAs prepare and audit accounts, handle taxation, and advise businesses on money matters. It is a popular alternative to CA in Pakistan because you can work and earn earlier, and the qualification is recognised in many countries.

Future outlook
Demand for qualified accountants in Pakistan stays steady because every company, bank and NGO needs accounts, audit and tax work. Big 4 firms keep hiring trainees, and shared service centres of multinationals in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad are a growing employer of ACCA members. Specialising in tax, IFRS reporting or financial analysis raises pay faster. The main competition comes from CAs for the top audit partner and CFO roles, but ACCA's flexibility and global recognition keep it attractive.

Your roadmap
Start building your accounting foundation in Class 9-10: focus on Maths, English, and choose commerce subjects for a strong ACCA start.
Milestones
End of Class 9 (spring)
Complete Class 9 annual exams with good marks in Maths and English
Focus on these two subjects as they are the foundation for ACCA. Aim for at least 75% in each.
Start of Class 10 (or earlier if O Level subject selection)
Choose Matric/O Level subjects aligned with commerce
If your board allows electives, pick Accounting, Economics, Business Studies, or Additional Maths. If not, ensure you take Maths and English as core.
Spring of Class 10
Sit for Matric/O Level board exams
Prepare thoroughly. Good marks (80%+) in Maths, English, and any commerce subjects will strengthen your ACCA application and possible exemptions.
After Matric/O Level results (summer after Class 10)
Decide your FSc group or A Level subjects
For ACCA, the best path is I.Com (commerce) or FSc with commerce subjects. If you take Pre-Engineering or Pre-Medical, you can still do ACCA but may need extra effort in accounting basics. A Level students often get more exemptions.
What to focus on
Mathematics – the language of accountingThroughout Class 9 and 10
ACCA exams require strong numerical and analytical skills. Master algebra, percentages, ratios, and basic statistics in Matric/O Level Maths. This will help you in ACCA papers like Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, and Taxation.
English – all ACCA exams are in EnglishThroughout Class 9 and 10
ACCA exams are written and conducted entirely in English. Build your reading comprehension, grammar, and writing skills. Practice past papers and read business news. Good English will also help in the practical experience requirement.
Commerce subjects – Accounting, Economics, Business StudiesClass 10 subject selection (if applicable)
If your board offers these as electives in Matric, choose them. They give you a head start in ACCA’s core concepts. If not, focus on the basics of business and finance through free online courses. I.Com or commerce group in FSc is the most direct path.
Matric/O Level marks matter for future exemptionsBoard exams in spring of Class 10
ACCA grants exemptions based on your prior qualifications. Good marks in Matric/O Level (especially in Accounting, Economics, and Maths) can reduce the number of ACCA papers you need to pass later. Aim for at least 70% in these subjects.
